  • Keyworkers Update

    Fri 20 Mar 2020 Mrs J L Dickerson

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Early today we received further guidance for schools maintaining educational provision. The Government clearly states that: If children can stay safely at home, they should, to limit the chance of the virus spreading. That is why the government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.’

The Government has also stated we should all follow the following principles:

    1. If it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they should be.
    2. If a child needs specialist support, is vulnerable or has a parent who is a critical worker, then educational provision will be available for them.
    3. Parents should not rely for childcare upon those who are advised to be in the stringent social distancing category such as grandparents, friends, or family members with underlying conditions.
    4. Parents should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults.

The Government has also asked that schools remain open to provide a safe and secure place during the day for children of key workers, children with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) and/or Social Worker if you need it and do not have alternative child care provision.

The list of key workers has now been clarified by the Government. The list includes people who work in health and social care; education and childcare; key public services; local and national government; food and other necessary goods; public safety and national security; transport; utilities, communication and financial services. It also appears to indicate that these guidelines apply if only one parent is a key worker. A full list can be found below and at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

    Health and social care

This includes but is not limited to doctors, nurses, midwives, paramedics, social workers, care workers, and other frontline health and social care staff including volunteers; the support and specialist staff required to maintain the UK’s health and social care sector; those working as part of the health and social care supply chain, including producers and distributers of medicines and medical and personal protective equipment.

    Education and childcare

This includes nursery and teaching staff, social workers and those specialist education professionals who must remain active during the COVID-19 response to deliver this approach.

    Key public services

This includes those essential to the running of the justice system, religious staff, charities and workers delivering key frontline services, those responsible for the management of the deceased, and journalists and broadcasters who are providing public service broadcasting.

    Local and national government

This only includes those administrative occupations essential to the effective delivery of the COVID-19 response or delivering essential public services such as the payment of benefits, including in government agencies and arms length bodies.

    Food and other necessary goods

This includes those involved in food production, processing, distribution, sale and delivery as well as those essential to the provision of other key goods (for example hygienic and veterinary medicines).

    Public safety and national security

This includes police and support staff, Ministry of Defence civilians, contractor and armed forces personnel (those critical to the delivery of key defence and national security outputs and essential to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic), fire and rescue service employees (including support staff), National Crime Agency staff, those maintaining border security, prison and probation staff and other national security roles, including those overseas.

    Transport

This includes those who will keep the air, water, road and rail passenger and freight transport modes operating during the COVID-19 response, including those working on transport systems through which supply chains pass.

    Utilities, communication and financial services

This includes staff needed for essential financial services provision (including but not limited to workers in banks, building societies and financial market infrastructure), the oil, gas, electricity and water sectors (including sewerage), information technology and data infrastructure sector and primary industry supplies to continue during the COVID-19 response, as well as key staff working in the civil nuclear, chemicals, telecommunications (including but not limited to network operations, field engineering, call centre staff, IT and data infrastructure, 999 and 111 critical services), postal services and delivery, payments providers and waste disposal sectors.

If workers think they fall within the critical categories above they should confirm with their employer that, based on their business continuity arrangements, their specific role is necessary for the continuation of this essential public service.

If you are a key worker, and you are unable to make alternative childcare arrangements, please complete the following ideally before 3:00pm today but definitely by the end of today (Friday 20thMarch) to help me in making suitable arrangements for St. Luke’s:

    1. Email keyworkers@stlukesbury.co.ukwith your name and your child’s name
    2. Clearly state your job, your employer and the ‘keyworker’ roles you have

We will contact parents and carers of children with a Social Worker or those with an EHCP directly as soon as possible.

Please note, if you and your child are already in isolation, then your child may not attend school until 14 days have passed.

Children who do not fall in to these groups should stay at home with appropriate care.

Once we have made a complete list of the children who fall in to these categories, we will inform you of the arrangements for attending school. Please note your child will only be allowed to attend school if they fall in to one of the keyworker groups and you have registered them as such.

Thank you for your continued help and support.

    Kind Regards

    Thu 19 Mar 2020 Mrs J L Dickerson

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Following advice from Public Health and on approval of the Vice Chair of Governors, school has closed with immediate affect. This is due to a suspected case of coronavirus in school. School will remain closed to everybody until 2nd April 2020 and then the position will be reviewed in line with Government guidance.

We will update you as often as we can via Parenthub, Twitter and the school website.

    Thank you

  • Coronavirus - Latest Update

    Thu 19 Mar 2020 Mrs J L Dickerson

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils

Following on from my last update, I’m now writing to let you know that we have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday until further notice.

As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services) and children with certain needs.

We are waiting for the government to publish more information on what this means, but it would help us in the meantime if you could let us know if you think your child may fall into one of these categories.

Please can you ring the school office on 0161 764 4988 with this information today.

We’ll be in touch again as soon as we are sure who this does apply to.

All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards.

Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We’ll re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know when this is by Parenthub, Twitter and the school website.

What we’ll continue doing while your child is at home

Your child’s learning is of course important to us, so we’ll continue to help your child to learn. Further information will be provided as soon as possible.

If your child usually receives free school meals we will also be in touch with more information about how we will continue to provide this, with support from a scheme that the government has just announced.

What we won’t be able to go ahead with

    • School trips
    • Events
    • Internal exams or tests

This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience with as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it’s far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.

If you want to get in touch to share any concerns, please don’t hesitate to do so by contacting the school office on 0161 764 4988.

And remember: if you or your child feels ill or shows any symptoms of Coronavirus please self-isolate for 14 days. If symptoms become worse please call the NHS on 111.

Thank you again for your continued support, and we will be in touch with more information when we can.

    Kind Regards

  • Coronavirus Update 17th March 2020

    Tue 17 Mar 2020 Mrs J Dickerson

    Dear Parents/Carers,

    Coronavirus Update

With so much in the press currently around Covid-19 (Coronavirus) and the constantly changing guidance, I thought it best to give you an update from school. I want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to keep up to date with the latest government (Public Health England) advice and will share any new guidance and associated measures with you as soon as possible.

    DFE current guidance is:

    · staff, young people and children should stay at home if they are unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature to avoid spreading infection to others. Otherwise they should attend education or work as normal.

    · if staff, young people or children become unwell on site with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature they should be sent home.

For any families that have a person showing symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19) the whole family must self-isolate for 14 days in line with the most recent guidance (16th March 2020).

It is business as usual at the moment with school staying open as long as possible. If your child/children are well please send them into school as normal.

If in the future should we reach a point where we do not have enough teachers and teaching assistants to teach your children we will have to give priority to providing cover for Key Stage Two, followed by Key Stage One and then Reception and Nursery. We will keep you informed at all times.

Should we get to the point that we do not have enough staff to supervise the children safely, we will have no choice but to close the school, until such a time when staffing levels improve.

We have significantly increased our cleaning regime and also our hand washing protocol. We have also increased the amount of time that the children are required to wash their hands. Children are supervised washing their hands three times per day.

We have already taken steps to reduce the risk of the virus spreading, these include:

    · Postponing class assemblies

    · Cancelling all whole school assemblies, celebrations or worship until further notice

    · Postponing pre-arranged school trips

As the current advice stands, schools are being told not to close without direct advice to do so from Public Health England.

If there is a confirmed case, and the advice received by the school is to remain open, parents/carers worried about any underlying medical issues that affect their family should make their own decision about sending children to school. Seeking advice from your GP will be helpful.

We would ask parents/carers in these circumstances to contact the school, having contacted medical professionals and received further advice relating to their specific circumstances. We would also ask that you keep the school informed of the advice you have been given by medical professionals in assessing any risk to vulnerable people in your families. The school will not insist you send your child to school and, as long as medical advice has been sought, absence will be authorised in these cases.

Advice to schools is publicly available and can be found here:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19

We are currently planning on how we will share homework with you in order that you can support your child whilst out of school. There will be a number of different ways including textbooks, worksheets and website links.

Our main form of communication is Parenthub so please ensure that you have downloaded the app.

Our school website will also have up to date information on and has links to home learning included. www.stlukesbury.co.uk

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support.

    Kind Regards

    Cllr T Tariq

    Chair of Governors
