  • Holocaust Memorial Day

Mon 27 Jan 2020 Mrs Heywood
Today, St Luke's celebrated Holocaust Memorial Day with a special assembly led by Ms Michael, our Headteacher. This assembly included some beautiful prayers that were written by children from St Luke's. We also had children from year 6 explain why we celebrate this day, using their knowledge of what they have learned during their topic on World War II. We also had some very special visitors; governors, council members and also Marianne, who survived a Kindertransport mission during the war. Kindertransport was the name given to the mission which took thousands of children to safety ahead of World War Two (1939-1945). It helped 10,000 children to escape from Adolf Hitler's reign of terror in parts of Europe controlled by the Nazis. Marianne told us about what it was like to leave her home, school and friends and also gave a very important message: to never give up hope.
