USEFUL INFORMATION
PE
PE for Year 2 will be on a WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.
All children can now come into school on this day in their full PE kit. This will be a plain white t-shirt, black bottoms and suitable footwear.
WATER BOTTLES
Children need to bring in their own water bottle, filled with WATER, that will remain on their desk all day for easy access when needed. PLEASE remind your child to bring home their bottle daily for washing and refilling
SPELLINGS
We will be providing the children with a list of words on a Friday in their homework book. Please encourage them to practice these and then return them to school on a Friday ready for their test! These spellings will be linked to the Phonics curriculum as well as spellings that will help with their daily writing. We will be celebrating those children who beat their score each week!
READING BOOKS
All children will be bringing home a phonetically decodable book each week on a Friday. These books match the level the children are reading at and should be read with parental support. Children will also be bringing home a reading for pleasure book that the child has chosen to share happily with someone in your household PLEASE ensure all books are returned by Thursday the following week. PLEASE take the time to read with your child every week at home and sign their reading record AT LEAST 3 times a week. This will be monitored by the teachers and dojo's will be awarded.
We love reading at St Luke's and our classroom is over flowing with so many wonderful books including fiction and non fiction. What ever you like to read, here in school we will have something for you!
It is so important to continue this love of reading at home. This could be on your own, with a friend or with a family member. Spending 30 minutes a day reading will really help to improve your reading skills and your vocabulary.
HOMEWORK
Homework will be being provided each week on a Friday. This will be in paper form for your child to complete.
PLEASE make sure this is completed over the weekend in your homework book.
There are additional activities that you can complete at home over the half term for extra DOJO POINTS!

LITERACY
This half term we will be continuing to focus lots on our handwriting and the presentation of our work. Our first text this half term will be 'Somebody swallowed Stanley' where we will be writing letters to help save our oceans. Our second text will be 'Captain Green and the Plastic scene'. We will be using all the wonderful aspects of writing we have learnt to write a story retell for those who have not read the story. We will also be writing cross curricular and writing a diary entry as if we were Samuel Pepys during the Great Fire of London. Our visit from 'The Drama Hut' should help with this - very exciting!
SCIENCE
In Science, we are learning about 'Everyday Materials'. We will be identifying different materials and investigating which would be most suitable material to use in different situations. Which pig built the best house?
RE
In Religious Education this half term our big question is 'What is the good news Christians believe Jesus brings?'. We will be looking at the Christmas story as believed by Christians, thinking about the views and feelings of Mary, the Shepherd's and the visit from the Angel. We will also be getting ready to perform our version of the Nativity!
Always here to help!
If one of our pupils ever has a worry in school, they know that they can speak to one of the adults in their classroom or one of the designated safeguarding leaders (DSLs). The DSLs have their photographs displayed on posters all around school, including in the classroom.
