PE

PE for Year 2 will be on a FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

All children can now come into school on this day in their full PE kit. This will be a plain white t-shirt, black bottoms and suitable footwear.

WATER BOTTLES

Children need to bring in their own water bottle, filled with WATER, that will remain on their desk all day for easy access when needed. PLEASE remind your child to bring home their bottle daily for washing and refilling yes

SPELLINGS

We will be providing the children with a list of words on a Friday in their homework book. Please encourage them to practice these and then return them to school on a Friday ready for their test! These spellings will be linked to the Phonics curriculum as well as spellings that will help with their daily writing. We will be celebrating those children who beat their score each week!

READING BOOKS

All children will be bringing home a phonetically decodable book each week on a Friday. These books match the level the children are reading at and should be read with parental support. Children will also be bringing home a reading for pleasure book that the child has chosen to share happily with someone in your household smiley PLEASE ensure all books are returned by Thursday the following week. PLEASE take the time to read with your child every week at home and sign their reading record AT LEAST 3 times a week. This will be monitored by the teachers and dojo's will be awarded.

We love reading at St Luke's and our classroom is over flowing with so many wonderful books including fiction and non fiction. What ever you like to read, here in school we will have something for you!

It is so important to continue this love of reading at home. This could be on your own, with a friend or with a family member. Spending 30 minutes a day reading will really help to improve your reading skills and your vocabulary.

HOMEWORK

Homework will be being provided each week on a Friday. This will be in paper form for your child to complete.

PLEASE make sure this is completed over the weekend in your homework book.

There are additional activities that you can complete at home over the half term for extra DOJO POINTS!

CURRICULUM

Please find some curriculum information below. We hope this will help with conversations at home around the children's learning.

MATHS

In Maths this half term we will be focusing on Money. We will be recognising coins and amounts, calculating totals and working out change.

These TopMarks games can help with their Maths fluency at home. They are free and good fun!

LITERACY

This half term we will be continuing to focus lots on our handwriting and the presentation of our work. Our first text this half term will be 'Bear and the Piano' where we will be retelling the story. We will be using all the wonderful aspects of writing we have learnt to write a story retell for those who have not read the story. We will also be writing a recount after a very exciting trip out of school...

SCIENCE

In Science, we are learning about Animals including Humans. We will be learning to categorise different animals and the things they need to survive. We will also be learning how to care for animals.

RE

In Religious Education this half term our big question is 'What makes some places sacred to believers?'. We will be looking at different places of Worship for different faiths, and the special things that happen there. We will be asking questions to people of different faith about their experiences in a place of Worship.

Always here to help!

If one of our pupils ever has a worry in school, they know that they can speak to one of the adults in their classroom or one of the designated safeguarding leaders (DSLs). The DSLs have their photographs displayed on posters all around school, including in the classroom.
