IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
READING BOOKS
Children will bring home one decodable book and one reading for pleasure book each Friday. PLEASE ensure your child has read at home with you and that the reading record book has been signed If your child is finding the book easy, please ask them lots of comprehension questions to ensure they also understand the book they are reading. Questions can include:
Homework
Children will be given a homework every Friday. Please complete the homework provided and send this back to school on Thursday. Children will be awarded dojo points for homework!!
PE
We will be having our PE lesson on MONDAY - Children may come into school wearing their PE kits.
PHONICS
In class, we teach Phonics daily as a whole class. We follow the Essential Letters and Sounds scheme. Your child will take a Phonics Screening Check in June 2025. The check consists of 40 real and pseudo (alien) words and it is to test your child's blending skills. Whilst your child is reading their reading book, you can help them to break down the sounds and blend the word together to read it. Please practice reading with your children as much as possible at home!
At St Luke's we love reading! There is nothing better than curling up and getting cosy with a good book. Whatever you like to read, St Luke's will have something for you. We have a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books in our class library. If you have a favourite author or genre, why not ask if we have a copy in school?
What shall I do if I have a worry?
If you are feeling upset or worried about something there are plenty of people you can talk in school that can help you. You could write a worry in our class worry box, or speak to one of the Year 1 staff members who are always there to help you. However, if you feel you would like to speak to someone else, all members of staff around school are happy to help. You can always talk to one of the teachers on the poster below:
