Week 3

What another amazing week we have had in Reception Callaghan!

We have looked at another new book in Drawing Club, learnt about doubles in Maths and also celebrated David Attenborough's 100th Birthday.

This week we have explored Africa and looked at all the different transport ways in Africa and compared them to the transport we have in Bury.

On Tuesday we started our new unit in Maths, looking at doubles. Miss Callaghan brought some loose parts and empty ladybirds. We had to create new spots for the ladybirds but they to be equal and we needed to create doubles.

This week in PE we have been practising our skills in preparation for sports day.

We practiced our hand eye co-ordination when balancing objects on a spoon, we had to make sure we only used one hand to do this and had to walk slower to not drop objects off our spoon.

We also practiced using team work and working together to complete activities.

On Wednesday we had a special visit from Miss Dean who wanted to see our Naughty Bus from last week. Reception was so excited to see her and to show her the Naughty Bus we have been looking after. Reception wanted the Naughty Bus to go under Miss Dean's shoe so we could write a sentence about it. We all could not stop laughing at how cheeky the bus was. Miss Dean is super excited to see our sentences once we finish it.

On Wednesday we used butterflies to create doubles again. This time we rolled a dice and doubled the number all by ourselves. We have blown Miss Callaghan and Miss Fox away with how amazing we have done with doubles.

This week we have completed some fun Mountain Challenges. We based our Mountain Challenges on our theme of Africa this week.

Challenge 1- Spot and name the safari animals on a magnifying glass.

Challenge 2- Cut and Stick Safari themed picture

Challenge 3- Decorate the fruit basket

We really enjoyed doing them and moving up the mountain.

On Thursday we used Numicon to create doubles on a ladybirds, we also used sticker dots to create doubles on our ladybird's independently.

We did a fantastic job of this.

Some of the girls during learning time created there very own train transport tracks. The girls created little versions of all the country's we have learnt about so far remembering all the facts and information! How amazing!

It was so long it covered the whole of the carpet! This was fantastic to see how much the children learnt and how much they enjoyed creating this.

On Friday Shaheer during his learning time memorised the numberblocks and created his own version! He was so proud to show other children and adults in the class. Shaheer even went to Reception Green to show them his drawings.

Independent Learning Time

On Friday we picked a random partner to work with to practice secret doubles. We took it in turns to roll a giant dice and make the number our partner had to double the secret number and then we swapped. We really loved guessing what number we might get on the dice.

This week in Drawing Club we have read Handa's Surprise. We talked about all the fruits we have tried and eaten before and guessed what fruits Handa might give Akeyo.

On Day 1 we drew Handa

Day 2 we drew Handa's Village

Day 3 we drew a tree growing a different fruit

Day 4 we drew another surprise Handa had.

Finally we ended our week celebrating Sir David Attenborough's 100th Birthday. We coloured some pictures of him. Created Birthday cards for him and RG and Nursery joined us whilst we watched one of his documentary's and learnt about why he is so important to us and our planet.

We sang Happy Birthday to him with one of our cakes from our role play area.
