Week 1

Welcome Back to Summer Term 1 Reception

We started our first day back with our Monday stay and play.

This week we had some activities on maths as well as phonics and reading.

We had lots of fun with our parents and grandparents who came. We all arrived back at school with a big smile on our faces.

We completed some very exciting Mountain Challenges this week. We tried really hard and moved our faces to the top of the mountain.

Drawing Club

This week in Drawing Club we have been reading Farmer Duck. We found this story so funny and could not believe how lazy the farmer was! We loved making all the noises the farm animals made and we talked a lot about our farm trip before the Easter holidays.

In Maths this week we have been looking at measurement we have looked at longer and shorter.

We went on a hunt around the playground to compare the sizes of the different objects we found.

After we found an item we brought it back in to class and compared them to our friends to see who had found the shortest item and who had found the longest item.

We had so much fun doing this.

We also worked in partners to create some Longer and Shorter Towers

This week Miss Callaghan created an extra challenge for us to do throughout the day. We need to find our name and tick it off once we have tried this. Miss Callaghan has called this our fine motor challenge. We have had some wonderful patterns made with a range of loose parts.

Some children used sequencing patterns such as rainbow colours.

Earth Day 2026

This week we celebrated National Earth Day. To celebrate we did a range of activity's, we used the litter pickers to pick rubbish off the playground, save our toy animals from the polluted plastic, decorated the Earth with pom poms and created some Earth posters.

We talked about why it is so important to look after our planet and what we can do to help look after it.

After a week of reading Farmer Duck on Friday we created our own map for the Farmer Duck. We used different animal stickers and tractors to create our own farm

On Friday we created our own Farmer Duck map using our farm stickers

Finally on Friday we spent some time outside, we used the bubble machines, the water station outside and we did a competition on who could do the most star jumps, bunny hops and jumping jacks in a minute.

We really enjoyed doing this.

We have an amazing first week back. We have settled in wonderfully and we have learnt lots of new things this week.
