Week 1

Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) 2026

Shrove Tuesday was during our half term holiday, but Mrs Green and Miss Callaghan decided we would celebrate and learn all about it on our first day back after the holidays.

We learnt how Christians would use all the ingredients in their cupboard the day before Lent started. This is why they would make pancakes!!

We found out what ingredients you need and how to make pancakes!!

We took part in Pancake Races and best of all we got to try pancakes with different toppings on. Yum, Yum!!!!

In Drawing Club we have been reading The Great Race. We loved learning about how each year is named after a different animal from the race.

Story Time: "The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac" by Dawn Casey

We have been learning all about Lunar New Year in our UTW. This year is the year of the horse.

We have been learning a song all about Lunar New Year. We loved putting actions to the song!!

Kong Hei Fatt Choy - Chinese New Year Song

Gong Xi Fa Cai: Chinese New Year is a spring festival, celebrated by Chinese people all over the world. It follows the Chinese Lunar calendar, and falls between mid-January and mid-February. The celebrations typically last for 15 days and there are many different ways to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

In Maths we have been looking at 2D shapes. We have been sorting them using different criteria, creating shape art work based on the work of Kandinsky, creating shape pictures and going on a shape walk around school. We sorted shapes and described why different shapes were on the wrong sorting mat.

We created our very own shape giant

We learnt about the Great Wall of China

We then created our own Great Wall of China all round our classroom. We worked for over 40 minutes building and creating it and were very proud when we had finished it!

Where is teddy?

We read Rosie's Walk and used positional language to describe her route. We used our small world and construction items to re create the places she went in the story.
