Week 1

Welcome Back to Spring 2 Week 1

Welcome back to another fun packed term!!

Myself and Miss Fox have loved hearing all your stories about what you got up to during the half term.

We have settled in very well this week and have started our learning off with Pancake Day on Monday. Myself and Mrs Green gathered both Reception Callaghan and Reception Green to look at why we celebrate Pancake Day and what we do to celebrate. We gathered ingredients and utensils together to look at what we needed and created our very own mixture, we used our strong muscles to mix the mixture together before Miss Callaghan put it in the pan to cook it.

We also created some lovely pancake faces using pictures of our favourite toppings. We really enjoyed making different faces, some had eyebrows, ears and glasses.

After we had made pancakes with all of our ingredients we then decorated our own pancakes. We had honey, jam, strawberries, bananas, lemon, sugar and sprinkles too. We really enjoyed spreading all the toppings on the pancakes and then eating them after. Some children said they would give their pancake 10 out of 10 it was that yummy!! Miss Callaghan even made one too!!

This week in Drawing Club we have been reading 'The Great Race'. We have really enjoyed reading this whilst learning about Lunar New Year. On Day 1 we drew the horse as this year we celebrate the year of the horse. On Day 2 we drew the river from the race. On Day 3 we drew a map for all the animals to follow for the race and on Day 4 we drew a new animal to join the race. We really loved this book especially whilst learning about Lunar New Year this week.

In Maths we have started a new unit of shapes. This week we have looked at 2D shapes and looked closely at circles and triangles. We created pictures using them and played some games of finding triangles and circles. We went on a circle and triangle hunt around school to find objects that look like circles and triangles. We found lots around school.

In Maths we have been looking a different positions using a teddy bear. We showed the teddy under the chair, at the side of the chair, behind the chair, in front of the chair and on top of the chair. We even had a little go ourselves.

Whilst celebrating and learning about Lunar New Year we created our very own dragon for our own dragon dance. We used a range of materials such as feathers, glitter, pipe cleaners, gold glitter card, red glitter card and cellophane.

We made the dragons eyes from yoghurt pots and attached them to their eyes.

We learnt about why the colour Red is significant during Lunar New Year. We learnt that red is a lucky colour and symbolises happiness and good fortune. We made our very own traditional red envelopes and added a chocolate coin to take home.

We used stickers and gold pens to create some traditional designs on the envelopes.
