Welcome to 1L

Hello and welcome to 1H' class page.

Your teacher is Miss Holt.

Mrs Burgess is also here to help.

We hope you enjoy taking a look at our brilliant page of learning.

@HStlukesbury1 - Check out our twitter page!

This half term, P.E is on a Friday afternoon.

Your child needs to keep their P.E kit in a clearly labelled P.E bag in school every day.

We will send it home at the end of each half term.

They will need:

White t-shirt, black shorts/pants/leggings and a pair of black P.E pumps.

Reading Books:

We have a reading programme in school called 'Accelerated Reader'. Your child will quiz on each book they read. We will be quizzing every THURSDAY and books will be returned on a Friday. It is important that you read with your child every night.

If your child is finding a story easy, please ask them lots of comprehension questions to ensure they understand the book they are reading. Questions can include:

  • Who are the characters?
  • What role does ______ have in the story?
  • Where is the story set?
  • What happens at the beginning?
  • What happens in the middle?
  • What happens at the end of the story?
  • Can you tell me your favourite part of the story?
  • Did you like or dislike the story?
  • Can you find my a word beginning with _____?
  • Can you find a word with the ____ sound?

In class, your child is being taught Phase 5 Phonics. They will take a Phonics Screening Check in June 2019. The check consists of 40 real and pseudo (alien) words and it is to test your child's blending skills. Please practice reading the sound mats below as much as possible. Whilst your child is reading their home school reading book, you can help them to break down the sounds and blend the word together to read.

Homework  will be sent out on a Friday and it needs to be completed and returned to school by Tuesday.

Book Bags & Uniform:

Please make sure your child brings a book bag to school everyday. It will help them to carry their homework and reading books. Children will be told to put any important letters or notices inside their book bags so please make sure you check them regularly.

Please ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled to avoid loss of belongings. We encourage children to put jumpers in their trays to keep them safe. When the weather is bad, make sure your child has a waterproof coat with a hood and suitable footwear.
