Hello and welcome to 1S!
Your teacher is Miss Shaw and your teaching assistants are Mrs. Burgess and Mrs. Aslam.
Please take a look at our fantastic page of learning. We are very proud of our work and always try our best in class. On this page you can find out important information, links to useful websites and photographs of children's work.
P.E is currently on a Wednesday afternoon. You need to make sure your child has their P.E kit in school everyday and leave it here until the end of the half term. They need to bring a P.E bag with their name clearly labelled, a white t-shirt, black shorts and a pair of black P.E pumps.
We have a new programme in school called 'Accelerated Reader.' Your child is able to quiz on each book they read. Reading books are changed as your child quizzes. It is very important that you read every night. Your child will be able to collect 'sunshine rays' to add to their reading rainbow if they score well on the quizzes. If your child is finding the story easy, please ask them lots of comprehension questions to ensure they also understand the book they are reading. Questions can include:
Please practice reading these different sounds everyday. Encourage your child to look out for them in the books they are reading. Ask your child to use their finger to point to each word as they read.
Homework will be sent out on a Friday and it needs to be completed and returned to school by Wednesday.
Please make sure your child brings a book bag to school. It will help them to carry their homework and reading books. Children will be told to put any important letters or notices inside their book bags so please make sure you check them regularly.
Please ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled to avoid loss of belongings. We encourage children to put jumpers in their trays to keep them safe. When the weather is bad, make sure your child has a waterproof coat with a hood.
There are lots of different websites that we use in school to support your child's learning. These websites can be accessed at home. Their username and passwords are stuck in the front cover of their homework books. Please try and access the websites with your child as much as you can. It would be very beneficial if your child completed the activities on their own or with the correct support.
Please see the links below to access the different websites that will be useful to your child.
Let's celebrate our wonderful learning!
Our first few weeks in Year 1
We have been refreshing our counting skills. We are brilliant at counting within 20 in 1S. Can you practice counting at home? You can count your food on your plate, how many toys you have and so on. Have lots of fun counting.
We have been practicing our skills in continuous provision. We love going on Reading Eggs and learning lots of new words.
In Topic, we have been looking at memories and remembering when we were babies. We have also been thinking about babies and toddlers and how they are different to ourselves. We have enjoyed exploring our senses and we are looking forward to learning lots more!
